Si quieres ayudar a otros, ayúdate a ti primero – If you want to help others, help yourself first

Ayer estaba impartiendo formación en La Coruña (Galicia). En el vuelo de vuelta a Barcelona hubo un momento de fuertes turbulencias que me hizo pensar en las instrucciones de la azafata antes de despegar. Vamos, las instrucciones de siempre…: «en casos de emergencia, póngase su máscara de oxígeno antes de ayudar a otros». En ese momento pensé, «desde luego, y siempre en ese orden… si quieres ayudar a otros, ayúdate a ti primero». El susto duró poco, por cierto…

Yesterday I was giving training in La Coruña (Galicia-Spain). On my flight back to Barcelona there was a moment of strong turbulences that made me think of the stewardess’ instructions just before takeoff. Well, the usual instructions: «in emergency cases, secure your own oxygen mask before helping others». At that moment, I thought, «of course, and always in that order… if you want to help others, help yourself first». It was just a short fright, by the way…
